Piezoelectric Materials for Transducers

PI Ceramic - PI's division for piezo-electric ceramic materials and components - offers a wide selection of piezoceramic components and materials based on modified PZT (lead zirconate titanate) and barium titanate, as well as lead-free piezo ceramics and custom tailored ceramics for many applications.

PI Ceramic's piezo materials compare favorably with the best materials internationally available today. The material properties are specified according to the EN 50324 European Standard.

Piezo ceramics are often divided into "hard" and "soft" materials. "Soft" and "hard" refer to the ferroelectric properties of the piezo ceramics, i.e. the mobility of the dipoles or domains and hence also to the polarization / depolarization behavior. "Hard" PZT materials can be subjected to high electrical and mechanical stresses. The stability of their properties destines them for high-power applications.

In contrast, "soft" ceramics are characterized by a higher domain mobility and a resulting "ferroelectrically soft" behavior, i.e. relatively easy polarization.

PI Ceramic develops and manufactures custom PZT ceramics and dielectric ceramics in small scale and large scale production runs. The PI Ceramic machine shop is equipped with state-of-the-art machines for processes such as: tape casting, extrusion, pressing, sintering, grinding, polishing, coating, vacuum deposition, galvanic metallization, screen printing, etc.

PI Ceramic has a team of highly motivated engineers, physicists, chemists, and skilled workers with many years of experience in producing a large variety of ceramic raw materials These materials comply with international standards (IEC-HDK, IEC-NDK, PZT) as well as modified ceramics for custom applications.

Piezoelectric products include:
